A’s agree to terms with Jesse Chavez

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez on a one-year contract for the 2014 season.

Chavez went 2-4 with a save and a career-low 3.92 ERA in 35 games with the A’s last season. He also logged career lows in opponents batting average (.230), on-base percentage (.302) and slugging percentage (.318) while striking out a career-high 55.

The 30-year-old Chavez is 9-15 with a 5.48 ERA in 191 career games with Pittsburgh (2008-09), Atlanta (2010), Kansas City (2010-11), Toronto (2012) and Oakland (2012-13).
