Argos QB Ray leads list of CFL’s top players
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray topped the list of the CFL’s best players for Week 1 of the 2013 season.
Ray earned top offensive player honors after throwing for 368 yards and four touchdowns in the defending Grey Cup champions’ season-commencing 39-34 victory against division rival Hamilton.
A pair of Calgary Stampeders made the list: defensive lineman Charleston Hughes and running back Jon Cornish, along with Ticats kick returner Lindsey Lamar.
En route to top defensive honors, Hughes totaled four tackles and three sacks in the Stamps’ 2013 opener, a 44-32 victory against British Columbia. He helped a Calgary defensive line limit the Leos to 72 yards rushing.
Cornish gained top Canadian mention after racking up 172 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in Calgary’s triumph.
Lamar rounded out the weekly winners with the special-teams honor, posting 224 yards — including a 104-yard TD return — on six kickoffs along with four punt returns for 18 yards.
