Angels release Raul Ibanez
Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim released designated hitter and veteran outfielder Raul Ibanez on Saturday.
The 42-year-old Ibanez, who signed a one-year deal with the Angels in the offseason, has batted just .157 with three homers and 21 RBI in 57 games.
He had a strong first half last season with the Seattle Mariners, batting .267 with 24 homers and 56 RBI. Those numbers took a severe dip after the All-Star break, when he hit .203 with five homers and nine RBI in 51 games.
A career .273 hitter, Ibanez has registered 303 homers, 421 doubles and 1,202 RBI in 19 seasons for the Mariners, Royals, Phillies, Yankees and Angels.
