American Pharoah completes work for Rebel Stakes
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Eclipse Award winner American Pharoah, last year’s champion 2-year-old male, wrapped up his preparations Friday for his 2015 debut in the $750,000 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, March 14.
Trained by Bob Baffert, American Pharoah had a six-furlong workout at Santa Anita and was timed in 1:10.40 and galloped out seven furlongs in 1:22.80 with Martin Garcia riding.
“He is ready,’ owner Ahmed Zayat said. “We know he is fast, but the way he did it today was so impressive. Very happy horse.”
American Pharoah has not started since winning the FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita last Sept. 27. He won the Del Mar Futurity after finishing fifth in his debut race last August. American Pharoah was forced to miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 1 due to a suspensory-related injury.
Also set for the Rebel is champion filly Take Charge Brandi, trained by D. Wayne Lukas for Willis Horton. On Monday morning at Oaklawn, Take Charge Brandi worked five furlongs in 1:01.80.
