Abreu stays with Mets on minor-league deal
Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Ten days after being designated for assignment by the New York Mets, outfielder Bobby Abreu signed a minor league contract to remain with the club on Thursday.
The 40-year-old was assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Abreu, who was DFA’d on August 4, hit just .238 with one homer and 14 RBI in 67 games with the Mets this season.
An 18-year veteran, Abreu is a career .291 hitter with 288 homers and 1,363 RBI.
