America had Blondie, Canada had Heart, and Britain had the Spice Girls. But a girl band coming out of Korea, and going on a worldwide tour? It’s not often you hear of that; and that’s because when the girl pop group 2NE1 embark on their world tour this summer, it will be the first time ever that any Korean girl band has ever done so.

Before now the only groups to emerge from Korea were those including JYJ, Super Junior, Big Bang, and BEAST — all male artists. Perhaps that’s why it’s so appropriate that 2NE1’s first world tour is called “New Evolution.” It will begin at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium where two shows will be held July 28 and 29. From there the band currently have 10 cities booked in 7 different countries including Asia, Europe, and the Americas. YG Entertainment, 2NE1’s agency, said that because the band has become so popular around the world, and so many different venues are requesting bookings, more dates will be added.

The band hasn’t been around for very long, performing their first concert ever during their Arena Tour last year. Now, after performing for over 700,000 people at one event, YG Entertainment says, “Through the world tour, a revolutionized stage and the skills of each member will be showcased. The majority of the staff who will manage the concerts for this world tour has participated in managing concerts for global pop stars.”

If you haven’t yet heard of 2NE1 and want to know what those talents are, you can check out their video for “I Am The Best,” here. And, you can also find 2NE1 tickets to their upcoming events here.
