2013 Masters Preview
The Masters start on Thursday of this week, and while golf fans always like to make their predictions of who will take home the green jacket, there’s one main question being asked this year: will Tiger Woods win? For the first time in five years, the superstar golfer is certainly making a case for it.
Woods has won the last 6 of 20 tournaments on this year’s PGA tour, but his last win in a major was in 2008 at the U.S. Open. And it’s been even longer than that, eight years, since he’s won a Masters. But this might just be his year. Not only has he seemed back to his old self on the green, but his personal life has also evened out since the ending of his marriage was one of the biggest scandals to hit sports in 2009. And as he proved at that time, the personal life of a golfer is often reflected in their game. Now, it seems there might be one more victory in Tiger’s story: slipping on another green jacket.
On the flip side of the golf club is Rory McIlroy, who had one of his best years last season and has already won a US Open and US PGA Championship. He has yet to win a green jacket and this could be his year, but he’ll have to get his emotions and his game in check first. After a flub with equipment provided by a sponsor caused him to lose the Abu Dhabi tournament; and then walking out on the Honda Classic due to a supposed tooth ache, it seems this might be the year the demons descended on McIlroy. Still, he’s one of the best in the world, and will be a real contender for Tiger this weekend.
The other favorite in this year’s Masters doesn’t come with any personal drama or scandal, but he does have his demons. Justin Rose has competed in seven Masters tournaments, finishing 8th and 11th in his most recent tries. He’s yet to claim a green jacket of his own, but with a number three finish at the PGA Championship, and being known as the number three golfer in the entire world, he’s most definitely one of the ones to watch.
Who do you think will win the Masters this year?
