Recap: Minnesota vs. Denver
Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kenneth Faried finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds to power the Denver Nuggets past the Minnesota Timberwolves for a 100-85 victory on Wednesday.
Will Barton netted 17 points, Danilo Gallinari scored 16 and Jameer Nelson tallied 12 points and nine assists off the bench for the Nuggets, who improved to 2-0 under interim head coach Melvin Hunt and won consecutive games for the first time since mid-January.
Andrew Wiggins and Gary Neal scored 20 and 13 points, respectively, while Kevin Garnett had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting in Minnesota's fourth straight loss.
"We just didn't play enough with a sense of urgency," Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders said. "They were quicker to the ball."
Wiggins' alley oop highlighted an 8-0 run that put the Timberwolves up 19-12 seven minutes in, but Denver pulled within 27-26 after 12 minutes of play.
With the game tied at 32-apiece early in the second quarter, Barton knocked down two shots from beyond the arc during a 14-0 burst that put the Nuggets in front 46-32.
Gallinari's dunk capped a dominant frame for Denver that made it a 60-43 game at halftime.
Minnesota came out of the break and scored the first eight points of the second half as a pair of Garnett jumpers made it a 61-51 game. Neal provided the Timberwolves' final eight points of the third and cut the deficit to 77-65 heading into the final frame.
The Nuggets led by at least nine points over the final 12 minutes.
