Chicago Bulls VS. Orlando Magic

Recap: Chicago vs. Orlando

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jimmy Butler scored 21, Pau Gasol had 16 points and 13 rebounds and the Chicago Bulls won again without Derrick Rose, beating the Orlando Magic 98-90 on Tuesday night.

Rose missed his second game after spraining both ankles against Cleveland on Friday, and the Bulls also played without Joakim Noah, who sat because of an illness.

But Taj Gibson returned after missing a game with a sprained ankle and had 16 points, and Aaron Brooks and Doug McDermott combined to score 25 off the bench for Chicago.

Nikola Vucevic collected 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic, who fell to 0-4 for the first time since starting 0-6 in 1990-91, their second season in the NBA. Tobias Harris led Orlando with 21 points and Evan Fournier scored 13.

"You have to give them credit for really executing down the stretch," Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn said.

Following a game with 20 lead changes, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau gave a lot of credit to his bench players, who outscored Orlando's 37-19.

Nikola Mirotic had eight of those points, all in the fourth quarter, including a pair of 3s during a 12-2 run that erased a two-point lead for the Magic and gave the Bulls an eight-point edge with 6 1/2 minutes left.

It got as close as three, but Brooks knocked down a 3-pointer to stave of an Orlando comeback.

"We kept battling. I thought our bench guys were terrific," said Thibodeau. "And our starters. We had a lot of guys step up."

Earlier, the Bulls trailed 28-24 after the first quarter before leaning on McDermott, who scored all 12 of his points in the second to help them take a 54-52 lead at halftime.

The No. 11 draft pick knocked down a 3-pointer early in the quarter and had two buckets during a 10-2 run punctuated by Gasol's alley-oop dunk. Butler's jumper in the final seconds gave Chicago the lead heading into the break.

Orlando scored eight of the last 11 points in the third quarter to tie the score at 69-69 going into the fourth.
