Cleveland Cavaliers (3-3) at Boston Celtics (3-4), 7:30 p.m. (ET)
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will play their fifth road game in the last six when they visit the Boston Celtics Friday at TD Garden.
The Cavs went 2-2 on a recent road trip and returned home to record a 118-111 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, as LeBron James and Kyrie Irving posted 32 points apiece and Kevin Love finished with 22 points thanks to 6-of-9 3-pointers.
James almost had his 38th career triple-double and added 11 rebounds and nine assists to his point total for Cleveland, which outscored New Orleans 34-23 in the third quarter and ended the period on a 16-1 run.
"Our defense definitely sparked our offense tonight, which is the way we need to play," said Irving, who also had nine assists and five rebounds.
Cleveland, which has won two in a row to even its overall record at 3-3, posted season highs in points (118), field-goal percentage (.494), 3-pointers (13-of-27), 3-point field goal percentage (.481), points in a half (67 in 2nd half) and assists (26).
After visiting the Celtics, the Cavaliers will play three in a row at home versus Atlanta, Denver and San Antonio.
Meanwhile, James (23,319) is 16 points shy of passing Celtics legend Robert Parish (23,334) for 24th on the all-time scoring list. King James is posting an average of 28.3 points, 8.0 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 40.7 minutes over the previous three games.
Cavs guard Dion Waiters did not play against the Pelicans because of a back issue and is questionable Friday.
The Celtics hope to get back on track after having their brief two-game winning streak stopped in Wednesday's 109-94 loss to Oklahoma City in the opener of a three-game homestand.
Rajon Rondo did not play in a win at Chicago on Saturday and returned against the Thunder, posting 20 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. Rondo leads the NBA with 11.3 assists per game and is tied with Paul Pierce for the fourth most assists in team history with 4,305. Larry Bird is third with 5,695.
Avery Bradley had 17 points for Boston, which had an 18-3 lead early on and got 14 points from Jeff Green, Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk. Boston shot 44.6 percent from the floor and hit only 9-of-33 3-pointers. The Thunder were paced by 28 points apiece from Reggie Jackson and Anthony Morrow.
"They ran their sets really well. We just gotta keep playing," said Sullinger. "It's a long season. You're gonna have games like that. You just gotta learn from it."
The Celtics will close the stay on Monday versus Phoenix. Guard Marcus Thornton (sprained ankle) is questionable Friday against the Cavs.
Boston won all three matchups with Cleveland last season and is 10-4 in the past 14 games in this series. Cleveland has lost five of seven and 10 of its last 13 trips to Boston.
