Nathan Karns, who could earn a rotation spot after injuries to Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly, allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings for the Rays.
Karns' counterpart, Ricky Nolasco, allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings. Eric Fryer drove in both Twins runs with a second-inning double.
