New York Yankees VS. New York Mets

Recap: NY Yankees vs. NY Mets

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Lagares homered, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice to lead the Mets over the Yankees, 7-2, Wednesday at Steinbrenner Field.

Lagares has two homers this spring and both have come against the Yankees, who lost their only two Grapefruit League meetings to the Mets.

John Mayberry Jr. also had two hits, while blasting a solo homer of his own, for the Mets, which uncorked 11 hits against the Bombers. Mayberry now has three homers and nine RBI while hitting .457 this spring.

Mets starter Rafael Montero went four innings and allowed one run on three hits. The right-hander struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

Montero could still win the starting rotation spot vacated by the injured Zack Wheeler, who had his Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, but is expected to be a reliever for the club when the season starts.

Dillon Gee has the inside track for Wheeler's spot.

Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka went 4 2/3 innings and was charged with three runs -- two earned -- on four hits. The right-hander, making his second start this spring after missing time last season with an elbow injury, struck out seven and walked one.

Chase Headley had two of the six hits for the Pinstripes.

Alex Rodriguez started as the Yankees DH and went 1-for-3 with a strikeout, singling in the seventh inning.
