Miami Marlins (73-76) at New York Mets (72-79), 7:10 p.m. (ET)
(SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of hurlers looking to bounce back from rough outings square off on Tuesday night when the Miami Marlins' Nathan Eovaldi counters Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets.
Eovaldi gets the call in the middle contest of this three-game series having not won since Aug. 8. He is 0-5 with a 5.74 earned run average in six outings since, falling to 6-11 with a 4.29 ERA on the year.
The 24-year-old righty was touched for four runs on eight hits, two homers and a pair of walks over just four innings of a setback to Milwaukee on Thursday.
Eovaldi is 1-2 lifetime versus the Mets with a 3.63 ERA in six meetings.
Colon, meanwhile, is coming off his shortest outing of the year as he was ejected after three-plus innings on Thursday against Washington for hitting a pair of batters. Both incidents came after Colon gave up a home run and he ended up getting charged with six runs -- all but one earned -- on seven hits and two walks in taking a 6-2 loss.
The 41-year-old has been a solid presence in New York's rotation this season, going 13-12 with a 4.14 ERA. He is 2-2 lifetime versus the Marlins with a 4.15 ERA in four games.
Despite a record-breaking start to Monday's opener, the Mets lost a 6-5 decision to suffer their third straight defeat.
Starter Jacob deGrom struck out the first eight batters he faced to set a franchise record and tie the modern-era mark set by former Houston pitcher Jim Deshaies (1986) and ended up fanning a career-high 13 batters over seven innings. He ended up allowing three runs in a no-decision.
"I had a good fastball early on," said deGrom. "I was locating it pretty well."
DeGrom was in line to get the win before the Marlins plated three runs in the eighth inning. Adeiny Hechavarria drove in two runs with a bases-loaded hit and Jeff Mathis knocked in the winning run with a soft liner to right.
"I'm happy about the way we came back and battled," said Mathis.
Miami has won back-to-back games following a four-game slide and beat New York for just the second time in the last nine meetings.
