Surprise, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Prince Fielder homered in his debut for the Texas Rangers, driving a fastball over the right field wall Thursday in his second at-bat of the team's spring training opener.
The solo shot helped the Rangers, who acquired the first baseman from Detroit in a blockbuster offseason trade, beat the Kansas City Royals 11-7.
Ace Yu Darvish struck out four and gave up two hits in two innings for Texas.
Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, who signed a seven-year, $130 million deal with the Rangers in December, went 0-for-2 in the leadoff spot and another offseason signing, Brent Lillibridge, hit a two-run homer.
Bruce Chen got Kansas City's first start of the spring and gave up two runs on four hits in two innings.
New Royal Danny Valencia hit a solo homer and Justin Maxwell had a two-run blast in the loss.
