2014 American League batting champion Jose Altuve collected three hits and a stolen base for Houston, which got three innings of one-run ball from starter Dan Straily.

Anthony Gose, acquired by Detroit in an offseason trade from Toronto, had a pair of extra-base hits and drove in two runs. Drew VerHagen struck out one and allowed a run in three innings for the Tigers.
