Kevan Smith scored the deciding run after reaching on a leadoff single.
Angel Sanchez hit a two-run homer and Alejandro De Aza knocked in a run for the White Sox, who got two shutout innings from starter Matt Zaleski.
Erik Gonzalez drove in a pair of runs and Jason Kipnis had an RBI double for the Indians, who saw starter Daisuke Matsuzaka give up two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
