Recap: Xavier vs. Texas-El Paso

Fullerton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - C.J. Cooper tallied 22 points to help the Texas-El Paso Miners hand the Xavier Musketeers their first loss of the season, 77-73, during the Wooden Legacy tournament at Titan Gym.

Vince Hunter had a double-double for the Miners (4-0), as he scored 17 points and collected 12 rebounds. Reserve Earvin Morris finished with 15 points and five rebounds, while Cedrick Lang also had a double-double, dropping 13 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. UTEP's win keeps it undefeated on the season and clinches the Miners a spot in the Wooden Legacy championship game against Washington.

Reserve Myles Davis scored 15 points and grabbed five boards for Xavier (5-1). Trevon Bluiett contributed 13 points, Dee Davis tacked on 12 and Matt Stainbrook finished with 11. The Musketeers will play Long Beach State in the third-place game on Sunday.

The Musketeers held a 38-33 lead over UTEP heading into halftime. Xavier shot the ball well in the opening period, going 14-of-28 from the field, including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Miners had five 3-pointers in the period as well, but they made just 43.3 percent from the floor overall.

UTEP's shooting improved in the final period, as it connected on 54.2 percent of its attempts from the field. The Miners also connected on 15-of-22 tries at the free-throw line to rally past Xavier, which shot just 42.4 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes.

The Miners won the rebounding battle, 40-31, and had more second chance points than the Musketeers (12-5).
