Wright St. Raiders VS. Cal. St.-Fullerton Titans

Cal State Fullerton (1-3) vs. Wright State (3-1)

GAME NOTES: The Cal State Fullerton Titans seek their first win away from home on Thursday, as they contend against the Wright State Raiders as part of the Spartanburg Marriott USC Upstate Classic.

Fullerton, which defeated San Jose State at home last weekend, snapped a two- game slide in the process, but two nights ago returned to the loss column when it bowed to USC, 53-49.

As for the Raiders, they've won three of their first four outings, losing only to Bowling Green by a score of 70-55 on the road last week. More recently, the team conquered Charleston Southern this past Saturday in an 86-79 decision.

Wright State has won both previous meetings with the Titans, the most recent being an 84-80 decision back on Dec. 22, 2007.

Both teams will be back in action over the next two days, facing off against USC Upstate and FIU in the round-robin tournament.

The Titans led by three points about midway through the first half of their meeting with USC, but they fell behind after that and never recovered, trailing by as many as 13 before closing the gap in what became a four-point decision at the Galen Center. Lanerryl Johnson scored a game-high 21 points for the visitors, shooting 5-of-7 behind the 3-point line, followed by Moses Morgan with 10 points, the latter hitting a feeble 1-of-7 beyond the arc and 4-of-16 from the floor, dragging the entire team down to just 32.1 percent from the field.

Morgan continues to lead the Titans in scoring after four games with his 14.8 ppg, but shooting a mere 36.2 percent from the field is not going to garner Fullerton many wins. His lack of accuracy has the team checking in at only 38.9 percent in the early going. Johnson and Alex Harris pitch in with 14.5 ppg and 11.8 ppg, respectively, but if the team doesn't play better defense on 3-point shooters who are making 45.2 percent of their tries it may not matter how well they play on offense.

Connecting on an impressive 57.7 percent of their shots from the floor, including 10-of-19 (.526) behind the 3-point line, the Raiders put five players in double figures as they slipped by Charleston Southern on the road Saturday. Leading all scorers was JT Yoho off the bench and returning from suspension with 25 points, adding seven rebounds, while Joe Thomasson pitched in with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Chrishawn Hopkins accounted for 14 points, Reggie Arceneaux 11 and Steven Davis 10 points in the victory.

Outside of Yoho, who was making his first appearances of the season against Charleston Southern, Hopkins has been the top offensive threat for the Raiders with his 18.3 ppg, thanks in part to his near-perfect effort at the free-throw line (17-of-18). Arceneaux has poured in 13.0 ppg based mostly on his 44.0 percent beyond the arc, while Thomasson (11.5 ppg) handles the action on the inside with 8.3 rpg.

Fullerton is a team that has some talent, but with the return of Yoho to the active Wright State roster, the chances of the Titans pulling out a win here just diminished considerably.
