Recap: Wright State vs. Belmont

Fairborn, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Chrishawn Hopkins poured in 21 points and grabbed five rebounds, as the Wright State Raiders held off the Belmont Bruins, 73-70, in the season opener for both teams at the Nutter Center.

Reggie Arceneaux added 15 points for Wright State (1-0), while Michael Karena tallied 11 points.

Evan Bradds matched a game-high with 21 points for Belmont (0-1), doing so on 8-of-9 from the field. Reece Chamberlain tallied a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Taylor Barnette and Craig Bradshaw netted 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Wright State (15-of-30) and Belmont (14-of-29) were nearly even in regards to field goal shooting in the first half. The Bruins took a 40-37 lead into intermission thanks to a 9-of-12 showing at the foul line.

Belmont held a lead for the majority of the second half, including by four with just over two minutes remaining, but the Raiders scored the final seven points of the game. An Arceneaux free throw put Wright State up for good with 29 seconds to play.

Belmont was plagued by 21 turnovers, which turned into 16 Wright State points.
