Recap: Western Mich vs. Akron

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kwan Cheatham Jr. registered a double- double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as he helped lift the Akron Zips to a 58-45 win over the Western Michigan Broncos in the second round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the seventh-seeded Zips (20-13) were Reggie McAdams and Antino Jackson with 15 and 10 points, respectively. With the victory, Akron will now battle third seed Kent State in the third round on Thursday night.

As for the sixth-seeded Broncos (20-13), they were paced by Thomas Wilder with 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. David Brown led the starters with nine points, but shot only 1-of-10 from the floor in the setback.

WMU led by three points early in the meeting, but the Broncos managed to shoot only 6-of-29 from the floor in the first half, en route to a 27-20 deficit at the break.

In the second half both sides made just eight field goals, but while the Broncos came up empty on seven tries beyond the arc, Akron was 6-of-14 from 3- point range, allowing the Zips to grab the double-digit win.

Akron outscored WMU on the perimeter by a 36-6 margin.
