Recap: Western Ky vs. Texas-El Paso

Bowling Green, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Trency Jackson scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out five assists as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated the Texas-El Paso Miners in overtime, 71-66, in a Conference USA tilt at E.A. Diddle Arena.

George Fant added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Hilltoppers (13-5, 6-0 C- USA). T.J. Price and Chris Harrison-Docks both contributed 12 points, while Ben Lawson chipped in with 10 points as WKU won its eighth game in a row.

As for the Miners (12-6, 4-2), Cedrick Lang scored 14 points, while Vince Hunter added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Matt Willms also contributed 13 points and Julian Washburn had 12 points. Earvin Morris contributed with 10 points in the loss.

The Hilltoppers shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the first half, and went 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The Miners shot 53.6 percent from the field and took a 35-28 lead into the break.

In the second half, UTEP shot just 37.5 percent from the field, including 0- of-7 from beyond the arc. WKU shot 46.4 percent and 2-of-10 from distance in the period. Morris converted on two free throws with one second left in regulation to push the game to overtime at 59-59.

In the extra session, the Miners went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc, and the Hilltoppers ended the game on an 8-5 run for the win.

WKU outrebounded UTEP, 47-35, in the win. The Miners missed all 17 of their 3- point attempts in the loss.
