WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Wake Forest Demon Deacons VS. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech (9-5) at Wake Forest (8-8)

GAME NOTES: With each team looking to put a stop to a two-game losing streak, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Wake Forest Demon Deacons will clash in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle at LJVM Coliseum.

Georgia Tech has lost two games in a row and three of its last four, with a one-point win over Charlotte separating the team from a larger losing streak. The Yellow Jackets, who are 9-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, dropped games to Notre Dame (83-76) in overtime, and Syracuse (46-45) in their last two outings.

Wake Forest's two-game skid comes directly after the team won three contests in a row. The Demon Deacons are 8-8 on the season, with just a 6-5 mark at home. Losses to Louisville (85-76) and Duke (73-65) stick out as the team's latest two decisions.

Georgia Tech and Wake Forest have been long-time conference rivals, so for the all-time series to be separated by just two games is remarkable. The Yellow Jackets own a 39-37 advantage over the Deacons in the series, but have won the last four meetings.

Rakeem Christmas buried a go-ahead free throw for Syracuse with 12 seconds left to play to lift the Orange over Georgia Tech by a single point in the Yellow Jackets' second straight defeat on Wednesday. Tech shot a mere 26.3 percent from the floor in the loss, including 3-of-17 from 3-point range. Charles Mitchell did everything he could to prevent the loss, tallying a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Jackets. Marcus Georges- Hunt chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Georgia Tech's scoring offense, which was near the bottom of the ACC before the team could only manage 46 points Wednesday, took a serious hit thanks to the loss to Syracuse. Now the Yellow Jackets enter Saturday's matchup putting up 65.9 ppg this season on 41.6 percent shooting. Georges-Hunt leads the team in scoring with 13.1 ppg this season, followed up by Mitchell's 11.1 ppg mark. Mitchell also averages a team-best 8.1 rpg, which beats out several other strong rebounding averages belonging to Demarco Cox (6.0 rpg) and Robert Sampson (6.2 rpg). Fortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the team has been holding opponents to just 62.8 ppg allowed on 42.5 percent shooting.

Wake Forest did a solid job against one of the nation's top teams in Duke on Wednesday night, limiting the visiting Blue Devils to 44.1 percent shooting from the floor, while the Demon Deacons connected on 45.9 percent of their tries. Wake Forest only trailed by five points at halftime, and attempted to close the gap in the second period before the Blue Devils closed things out. Devin Thomas netted 24 points to lead Wake Forest in the loss, while Codi Miller-McIntyre chipped in with 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

The Demon Deacons are desperately looking to fix an 0-3 record in ACC play with this matchup against the Yellow Jackets. The team has been strong offensively with a 70.2 ppg average on 42.9 percent shooting from the floor. Miller-McIntyre tops the squad with 13.1 ppg, followed closely by Thomas at 12.8 ppg on 50.7 percent shooting. Thomas is just shy of averaging a double- double in 16 games this season, bringing in a 9.4 rpg mark to Saturday's outing. The biggest problem for the Deacons has been scoring defense. The team is allowing 68.0 ppg this season on 43.7 percent shooting.

Georgia Tech's offense might have a hard time keeping up with Wake Forest's on the road, especially if it's just Georges-Hunt and Mitchell that are contributing on that end of the floor. If the Demon Deacons can put up their average scoring total this season, it might be enough to bury the Yellow Jackets.

Predicted Outcome

Wake Forest 69, Georgia Tech 62
