Virginia Military Keydets VS. The Citadel Bulldogs

Recap: Va Military vs. Citadel

West Point, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Trey Chapman knocked down a go-ahead 3- point field goal try with 19 left to play to lift the VMI Keydets to a 66-65 decision over The Citadel Bulldogs in a thriller at Christl Arena in the first round of the All-Millitary Classic.

Chapman finished with only five points for the Keydets (1-0), who received 25 points and five assists courtesy of Q.J. Peterson. Brian Brown chipped in 16 points and Phillip Anglade grabbed nine rebounds for VMI, who will advance to face Army in the championship on Saturday.

Ashton Moore led The Citadel (0-1) with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. P.J. Horgan tallied 14 points along with six boards, while Quinton Marshall netted 12 points and Brian White had 10 points. The Bulldogs will face Air Force in Saturday's consolation game.

Although VMI is in its first season as a member of the Southern Conference, this tilt did not count towards either team's league record.

The Bulldogs took a 38-32 lead into halftime after they connected on 64 percent of their field goal attempts and outrebounded VMI, 38-32, in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Keydets battled back by hitting 7-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc after the break. Moore missed a potential game-winning jumper on The Citadel's final possession.

VMI outscored the Bulldogs, 33-6, from beyond the arc.
