Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Princeton

Fullerton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Vince Hunter recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners to a 62-56 win over the Princeton Tigers in the first round of the Wooden Legacy Tournament at Titan Gym.

Cedrick Lang also registered a double-double for UTEP (3-0) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. C.J. Cooper scored 10 points, while Julian Washburn tallied a game-high five assists.

Henry Caruso paced the Tigers (1-4) with 15 points. Steven Cook had 13 points, Amir Bell netted 10 points, and Hans Brase filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The Miners took a 23-20 lead into the intermission after they assisted eight of their 10 makes from the floor in the opening period. Princeton was limited to a 3-of-14 clip from 3-point range in the first half.

Although the Tigers improved to hit on 44.4 percent of their field goal tries and converted 9-of-13 shots at the free-throw line in the second stanza, it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit. UTEP sank 47.8 percent of its shots from the floor, including a 5-of-7 clip from beyond the arc over the final 20 minutes of the contest.

The Miners enjoyed a 35-30 edge in the rebounding battle. UTEP will advance to take on Xavier in Friday's second round. The Tigers will face San Diego in the consolation ladder.
