UTAH STATE AGGIES

Utah State Aggies

Utah State Aggies VS. Santa Clara Broncos

Santa Clara (2-0) at Utah State (2-0)

GAME NOTES: Santa Clara hits the road for the first time this season, as the Broncos drop in on the Utah State Aggies for a non-conference battle at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Wednesday night.

Already off to a strong start, the Broncos are seeking their third win in as many games after hosting and defeating the likes of Cal State Fullerton last Friday night (89-72), and San Diego Christian (70-58) a day later.

As for the Aggies, they too are sporting a 2-0 mark early on. The squad's campaign began with in-state rival Weber State on Friday, a meeting that resulted in a 72-61 final, and then two days later USU claimed a 60-55 decision versus Illinois State in the first road game of the season.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Aggies are ahead by a count of 5-3.

Against San Diego Christian, the Broncos shot 54.9 percent from the floor and held the visitors to only 38.3 percent, and still the hosts only won by 12 points. Had Santa Clara done better than a mere 8-of-17 at the free-throw line, the margin of victory would have been even more comfortable. Brandon Clark finished with not only 21 points but also nine assists for the Broncos, followed by Jared Brownridge with 16 points. Jarvis Pugh contributed nine rebounds, but still San Diego Christian beat SCU on the glass by a 36-32 margin.

After two games, Clark heads the offensive attack for the Broncos with his 26.0 ppg, stemming from 51 percent shooting from the floor and 18-of-21 at the free-throw line. Brownridge accounts for 12.5 ppg and is even more accurate from the field at 60 percent, as the program produces 79.5 ppg.

For the second time in as many games, the Aggies found themselves with a second-half deficit, but as they did versus Weber State they also rose above it and pulled off the win, this time at Redbird Arena. David Collette connected on all but three of his 10 field goal attempts as he finished with a team-best 17 points, followed by Darius Perkins with 14.

Collette is not only leading the team in scoring entering play this week with his 19.5 ppg, he is doing so in outstanding fashion by converting a staggering 72.0 percent of his field goal tries. Jalen Moore (14.0 ppg) has also been strong from the floor at 55.6 percent, yet somehow Utah State is shooting only 44.9 percent from the field collectively. Still, that is head-and-shoulders above the competition which is doing so at only 35.3 percent.

As long as the Aggies don't dig themselves another first-half hole expect to see them remain perfect, and at the same time send the Broncos to their first loss of the season.
