Recap: USC vs. Stanford
Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Brown scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out five assists, and the Stanford Cardinal survived the USC Trojans, 78-76, at Galen Center.
The Cardinal (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) squandered a 14-point second-half lead in a double-overtime loss to UCLA on Thursday and nearly coughed up another big cushion Sunday.
They led by as many as 13 but missed their final seven shots from the field and went scoreless for five-plus minutes before Stefan Nastic made a free throw with 1.7 seconds remaining.
Rosco Allen made four of Stanford's 10 3-pointers and totaled 18 points, while Nastic chipped in with 15 points and six boards.
Julian Jacobs led USC (9-7, 1-3) with 16 points, but it was not enough to keep the Trojans from falling for the third time in four Pac-12 games.
The Cardinal shot a stellar 58.1 percent from the floor and made nine 3- pointers in the first half, yet they only led by six, 49-43, at the break.
Allen's 3-pointer started a 9-0 run that stretched Stanford's lead to 68-55, and it stayed a double-digit spread until USC made a late push.
Jordan McLaughlin's fastbreak layup capped a 14-2 run to pull the hosts within 77-76 with a minute to play.
After Brown missed a deep two, McLaughlin drove left and lost his footing, resulting in a turnover just before the buzzer sounded.
