UNLV Runnin' Rebels VS. Utah State Aggies

Recap: UNLV vs. Utah State

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Doolin knocked down a pair of free throws in the waning moments in order to give the UNLV Runnin' Rebels a 79-77 overtime victory against Utah State in Mountain West Conference action at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Doolin made just one of his five field goal tries and finished with five points, but managed to contribute with five assists and four rebounds for the Runnin' Rebels (11-9, 2-5 MWC) as they snapped a three-game slide and won for just the second time in the last eight outings.

Rashad Vaughn scored a career-high 31 points, adding nine rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Christian Wood and Jordan Cornish both tallied 11 points for the Rebels in the win.

The Aggies (11-8, 4-3) were paced by David Collette with 24 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the floor before fouling out in overtime. Jalen Moore registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Jojo McGlaston came up a point shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds of his own.

Eight of the first nine field goal attempts by UNLV came from 3-point range and yet the team still managed to make good on 45.5 percent from the floor overall, en route to the 37-29 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Rebels fell to only 32.0 percent accuracy from the floor, compared to 63.2 percent for USU.

After converting only one of two chances at the free-throw line with 8.7 seconds remaining, the Aggies held a 68-66 advantage. Without any timeouts, UNLV was able to get the ball into the hands of Patrick McCaw who threw up a floater that went through the net with 1.9 seconds to play, sending the meeting into overtime.

The Aggies opened the extra session with six straight points, but then let the hosts back in.

Tied at 77-77, the Aggies had a chance to take the clock almost down to the end, but the team missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key and upon grabbing the rebound Doolin was fouled by Collette with 2.4 seconds to play. Doolin then knocked down both attempts at the free-throw line to give the hosts the much-needed victory.

UNLV, which hit on 18-of-23 at the charity stripe, turned the ball over just four times on the evening.
