Recap: Massachusetts vs. Notre Dame

Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerian Grant shot 10-of-13 from the floor and finished with game-highs of 24 points and eight assists for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who claimed an 81-68 win over Massachusetts as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off event at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Pat Connaughton added 18 points and Demetrius Jackson scored 16 to go along with five steals to help the Fighting Irish (4-0) remain unbeaten. Zach Auguste recorded a double-double in the win with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Derrick Gordon scored 18 points to lead the Minutemen (3-1), who were dealt their first loss of the 2014-15 campaign. Cady Lalanne added 16 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Donte Clark rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points in the loss.

UMass jumped out to a 19-9 lead midway through the first half, but the Irish went on to shoot 54 percent from the floor in the opening frame as they took a 31-28 lead into the break.

Notre Dame improved to 63 percent from the floor in the second stanza, including 6-of-9 accuracy from 3-point range. UMass climbed to within seven points in the final four minutes, but Auguste answered with a bucket in the paint and then Connaughton buried a three to end the threat.

Notre Dame's bench contributed only five points in the victory.
