Recap: Massachusetts vs. Northeastern

Amherst, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jabarie Hinds led four players in double figures with 14 points, as Massachusetts made short work of Northeastern, 79-54, at Mullins Center on Wednesday.

Derrick Gordon totaled 13 points and seven rebounds for the Minutemen (5-1), while Cady Lalanne added 12 and Donte Clark posted 10 points.

David Walker picked up 14 points while T.J. Williams posted 12 points and Scott Eatherton had 11 for the Huskies (4-1), who suffered their first defeat by shooting just 37.3 percent from the floor.

UMass was in control throughout, scoring the game's first six points and stretching the lead to 14-4 on a Hinds triple just before the seven-minute mark.

Clark's lay-in stretched the hosts' edge to 17 before the Minutemen took a 36-24 edge to halftime.

Massachusetts needed a little over five minutes into the second half to open up a 20-point edge, on a Seth Berger bucket to make it 51-31.

Devon Begley's basket with 13:10 remaining was the last time Northeastern's deficit dipped below 20 points, and UMass' largest lead of the game -- 27 points -- came inside the final minute on a Demetrius Dyson shot.
