UMass Minutemen VS. Manhattan Jaspers

Recap: Massachusetts vs. Manhattan

Amherst, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - After committing a late turnover that allowed Manhattan to force overtime, Massachusetts bounced back in the extra session and pulled away with a 77-68 win.

With less than a second left, Manhattan's Emmy Andujar connected with Rich Williams on an inbounds pass lob dunk just before time expired to take advantage of Massachusetts deflecting its own inbounds pass out of bounds.

In overtime, the Minutemen (3-0) never trailed. They went to the line 12 times and made all 12 free throws, including six by junior Derrick Gordon. Gordon also assisted on Cady Lalanne's layup with 3:30 remaining that put UMass up for good. Despite shooting just 2-of-9 from the field, Gordon finished with 12 points, eight assists and eight rebounds.

Free throw shooting kept Massachusetts alive in a game that saw Manhattan (0-2) maintain a small but steady lead. A 27-of-29 effort from the line as a team countered Manhattan's 6-of-15 shooting from 3-point range. Massachusetts' largest lead of regulation was just three points.

Lalanne led all scorers with 23 points, and he also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Trey Davis scored 14 points for the Minutemen, Jabarie Hinds added 10 and Maxie Esho scored 12 points before fouling out.

Andujar paced the Jaspers with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting, and also finished with 10 boards and five assists. Shane Richards scored 13, and Tyler Wilson chipped in 10. Rich Williams' eight points were Manhattan's only points off the bench as the Jaspers were outscored 14-8 by Massachusetts' reserves.
