UMass Minutemen VS. Canisius Golden Griffins

Recap: Massachusetts vs. Canisius

Amherst, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Maxie Esho scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Massachusetts Minutemen defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins, 75-58, in non-conference action at the Mullins Center.

Also coming close to recording a double-double for the Minutemen (6-4) were Cady Lelanne with 16 points and eight rebounds as well as Derrick Gordon who tallied 11 points, eight boards and five assists as the team snapped a three- game slide.

Leading the way for the Golden Griffins (4-4) was Zach Lewis with 13 points, although he shot just 5-of-15 from the floor, followed by Josiah Heath with 10 points in the setback.

Shooting only 23.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 2-of-12 behind the 3-point line, Canisius led by a basket early in the meeting but then fell behind and trailed by 25 at the break, 46-21.

After converting a sizzling 65.4 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes, the Minutemen slowed to only 33.3 percent after intermission, including a disappointing 1-of-8 beyond the arc, but still cruised to the comfortable home win.

UMass held a 38-28 advantage on the glass on the afternoon and also outscored the Griffs at the free-throw line, 18-6.
