Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. Cal Poly

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Williams scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos slipped by the Cal Poly Mustangs, 54-50, in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Honda Center.

Michael Bryson and John Green added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the second-seeded Gauchos (19-12) who advance to the semifinals on Friday.

The seventh-seeded Mustangs (13-16) were led by Brian Bennett with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor, followed by Maliik Love and Joel Awich with 10 points apiece.

Both teams made just eight field goals in the first half, but thanks to a trio of 3-point conversions and 8-of-11 at the free-throw line, UCSB was able to pull out to a 27-22 advantage at the break.

In the second half the lead for the Gauchos grew to eight points just over three minutes into the period, but down the stretch the lead dwindled to just two on a number of occasions, with a pair of free throws in the final seconds by Bryson giving UCSB a little breathing room.

The Gauchos managed to overcome 13 turnovers and a mere 3-of-12 shooting beyond the arc to pull off the win.
