Recap: UAB vs. ULM

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tylor Ongwae and Justin Roberson each tallied 18 points, helping the ULM Warhawks knock off the UAB Blazers, 74-65, in the season opener for both teams at Bartow Arena.

Ongwae also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Warhawks (1-0). Nick Coppola and Majok Deng helped out with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and Coppola added six assists as well.

Tosin Mehinti recorded a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers (0-1). Hakeem Baxter and Tyler Madison added 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the defeat.

Both teams struggled to get their offenses going in the opening half, with the Warhawks shooting 36.1 percent from the field and the Blazers 36.7 percent. ULM claimed a 33-25 advantage at halftime by attempting six more field goals than UAB.

In the second half, the visitors heated up, improving to shoot 48.4 percent from the floor. ULM led by as many as 15 points, with 3:37 left in the game.

The Blazers committed 16 turnovers in the losing effort.
