Missouri State (5-4) at Tulsa (5-5)
GAME NOTES: Two teams both looking to get back into the win column will meet up at the Reynolds Center on Wednesday night, as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane play host to the Missouri State Bears in non-conference play.
Missouri State is hoping to rebound from Monday's 80-61 setback at Oral Roberts, which snapped the team's modest two-game win streak. The Bears are wrapping up a three-game road trip at Tulsa. They will return home for two games next week before opening their Missouri Valley Conference slate at Southern Illinois on New Year's Eve.
Meanwhile, Tulsa is winless through the first two games of a four-game homestand. The Golden Hurricane are coming off Saturday's 87-68 loss at the hands of 16th-ranked Oklahoma. Next up, they will finish up the homestand against Incarnate Word on Monday.
The Bears lead the all-time series with Tulsa, 21-18.
Missouri State allowed Oral Roberts to go on a 19-0 second-half run earlier this week, and that run ultimately spelled doom for the visiting Bears. They shot just 39.3 percent for the game, including a 4-of-17 effort from beyond the arc. ORU, on the other hand, shot 10-of-23 from the perimeter. Loomis Gerring led the way with 15 points in the loss, while Marcus Marshall scored 12.
On the season, Marshall paces MSU with 21.0 points per game, followed by Austin Ruder with 10.8 ppg. That duo has combined to shoot 49 percent from 3- point range (49-of-101).
Tulsa is led by James Woodard (13.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and Shaquille Harrison (12.4 ppg, 3.5 apg). The Golden Hurricane have been rather inconsistent on offense thus far, shooting just 41.4 percent from the floor as a team. But they often give themselves a chance thanks to a defense that has limited opponents to 40.6-percent shooting.
That was not the case on Saturday, however, as they allowed nationally-ranked Oklahoma to hold a 24-11 edge in second-chance points. The Sooners led by 11 at the break and maintained a double-digit margin throughout the second half. Harrison tallied 21 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds, but Woodard finished with only nine points on 3-of-13 shooting.
For one reason or another, Tulsa has been struggling on its home floor. However, the Golden Hurricane put up a better fight against No. 16 OU than Missouri State put up against Oral Roberts in its last game.
