TULANE GREEN WAVE

Tulane Green Wave

Tulane Green Wave VS. SMU Mustangs

SMU (14-4) at Tulane (13-5)

GAME NOTES: The SMU Mustangs will hit the road Wednesday in search of their fifth straight win, but they'll have to go through their American Athletic Conference foe Tulane Green Wave at Devlin Fieldhouse in order to achieve it.

SMU, at 14-4, has won 12 of its last 13 games altogether, with a six-point loss to Cincinnati separating what would be a huge win streak. The Mustangs are 5-1 in conference play, but own just a 3-3 mark away from home.

Tulane enters the fray sporting a 13-5 record on the season, and a 4-2 mark in AAC competition. It's been a bumpy ride for the Green Wave lately, as they come off a 68-65 win over Houston that directly followed a 103-100 triple- overtime loss to UCF.

SMU and Tulane will meet Wednesday for the 29th time in their series history. The Mustangs hold a slim margin, 15-13, although they trail the Green Wave on the road, 11-3. The two sides split the season series in 2012-13, while both were members of Conference USA.

SMU made quick work of East Carolina in the team's last outing on Saturday, as the Mustangs used a 58.8 shooting percentage from the floor to bury the Pirates, 77-54. Five SMU players scored in double figures to help the team to a win, led by Nic Moore's 14-point effort. The guard also dished out a team- best six assists. Markus Kennedy netted 12 points with six rebounds, and both Ben Moore and Ryan Manuel added 11 points apiece. Sterling Brown chipped in with 10 and a team-high seven rebounds as the Mustangs took a 12-point lead into halftime and never looked back.

Two SMU players will not suit up against Tulane: Keith Frazier (10.5 ppg), who is ruled out academically, and Justin Martin, who is out for personal reasons. Nic Moore leads the Mustangs in scoring this season, netting 14.3 ppg with a team-best 90 assists. He's followed in the scoring department by Yanick Moreira (11.7 ppg) and Kennedy (10.3 ppg), who round out a trio of active double-digit scorers for the squad. Moreira leads SMU in rebounding, pulling down 6.3 boards per outing. As a unit, the Mustangs are netting 69.9 ppg on an impressive 49 percent shooting from the floor, and are holding opponents to just 59.7 ppg this season.

Clutch free throws down the stretch for Tulane helped the Green Wave go on the road and hand Houston yet another loss. Tulane was able to overcome a strong Cougars shooting performance, in which Houston connected on 47.9 percent of its shots from the field. Louis Dabney scored 18 points to pace Tulane in the win, while Jonathan Stark contributed 15 points, hitting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Dylan Osetkowski came off the bench to net 10 points for the Wave, while also pulling down seven rebounds.

The Green Wave have been hot offensively this season with a core of strong scorers back from last season. Dabney is at the center of it all for Tulane, averaging a team-best 14.0 ppg on 43.1 percent shooting from the floor. He's tailed by Stark (12.3 ppg) and Jay Hook (11.7 ppg) who round out a trio of double-digit team scorers. Tulane comes in netting 70.2 ppg this season on 45 percent shooting, and are allowing opponents to score just 64.5 ppg in the same frame.

Tulane and SMU square off utilizing two of the top offenses in the AAC this season. SMU has been exceptionally dangerous lately, and although Tulane averages more points per outing, the Mustangs could employ an air-tight scoring defense that could shut the Wave down, even at home.

Predicted Outcome

SMU 68, Tulane 64
