Recap: Tulane vs. Miss State
New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jay Hook notched a game-high 17 points, helping the Tulane Green Wave defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 59-54, in non-conference action at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Hook went 6-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-8 from the perimeter, for the Green Wave (7-1), who extended their winning streak to seven games. Jonathan Stark netted 13 points in the victory.
Travis Daniels logged 13 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-2), who have lost back-to-back games. Gavin Ware and Roquez Johnson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
In the first half, the Green Wave shot 41.7 percent from the field, holding the Bulldogs to a 38.5 percent clip. The home team was on top, 28-26, at halftime.
Tulane improved to a 43.3 percent shooting mark in the second half, while the opposition dipped to 37.9 percent. Though the Green Wave led for the majority of the half, the Bulldogs tied it up with just 2:36 left, when Trivante Bloodman's layup knotted it at 54-54. After that, however, the hosts sealed the win on a layup by Louis Dabney and 3-pointer from Hook.
The Green Wave escaped with a win despite 16 turnovers in a game which had 10 lead changes.
