Tulane Green Wave

Tulane Green Wave VS. Houston Cougars

Houston (10-18) at Tulane (14-14)

GAME NOTES: The Tulane Green Wave will try to end a four-game losing streak as they welcome the Houston Cougars to Devlin Fieldhouse for an American Athletic Conference tilt.

Houston will be looking for its second victory in a row after its 72-55 win over South Florida on Sunday. The Cougars had not been victorious since defeating Connecticut on Feb. 1 as they lost the next six games before facing the Bulls. Coach Kelvin Sampson has not found too much success on the road in his inaugural tour with the program. Houston is just 1-9 in true away games, including an 0-8 mark versus league foes. The Cougars have been outscored by an average of 7.8 ppg since entering the AAC portion of their schedule.

Junior forward Devonta Pollard converted 10-of-13 shots at the charity stripe and recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Cougars over South Florida. Pollard also recorded five steals, while LeRon Barnes and Jherrod Stiggers netted 15 and 11 points, respectively. Stiggers managed the offense well en route to a team-best seven assists. Wes VanBeck scored 12 of the team's 14 bench points after he drained all four of his 3-point field-goal tries. On the season, Stiggers paces Houston and ranks fifth in the AAC with 13.9 ppg. He does a lot of his damage from beyond the arc as his average of 3.1 makes from 3-point range per tilt ranks 14th nationally. Pollard is posting 11.0 and 6.1 rebounds per outing.

The Cougars held their own against the Green Wave when Tulane visited Hofheinz Pavilion on Jan. 17. Tulane claimed a 68-65 decision after a hard-fought contest to take a 16-15 all-time series lead. These former Conference USA rivals began their series during the 1946-47 season.

Tulane's recent skid has dropped it to a 14-14 overall standing, putting it in danger of falling below the .500 mark for the first time since it was 0-1. The Green Wave dropped to a 5-11 league record on Saturday when they suffered a 63-47 setback at home to Cincinnati. Coach Ed Conroy's squad has been outscored by an average of 5.9 ppg by its league foes and ranks last in the AAC in field-goal percentage (.374) during conference play.

The Green Wave have been held under the 60-point mark in 10 consecutive games since defeating Houston. They were limited to only 34.8 percent efficiency from the floor on Saturday by the Bearcats and scored only 16 points in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. Tulane has hit on just 12-of-43 attempts from behind the 3-point line over its last two games.

One game after recording a career-high 32 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field, junior guard Louis Dabney once again led Tulane on Saturday with 18 points. Senior guard Jay Hook added 12 points for the Green Wave, who fell allowed the Bearcats to sink 47.2 percent of their shots from the floor. Dabney is pacing the team in scoring with 13.8 ppg. Hook (11.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Jonathan Stark (10.8 ppg) are also carrying double-digit scoring averages into Wednesday's contest. Despite being one of the smaller teams in the AAC in terms of height, Tulane is being outrebounded by only 0.8 rpg by its league foes. However, the Green Wave's lack of a rim protector has resulted in league-worst 1.6 blocks per conference game.

The Green Wave will give a spirited effort to send their seniors out on a positive note. However, Houston did a terrific job of getting into the paint and making trips to the free-throw line in its last outing. The Cougars will be able to pick up their first road win in AAC play if they continue to do those things offensively and contest perimeter shots on the defensive end.

Predicted Outcome

Houston 62, Tulane 58
