La Salle (5-5) at Towson (7-3)
GAME NOTES: Towson plays its first home game in nearly three weeks on Saturday night, as the Tigers host the La Salle Explorers at SECU Arena in non- conference action.
La Salle fell to .500 on the season when it lost in overtime to American University on Tuesday. The fact that the Explorers played an extra five minutes was a victory in itself considering Jordan Price needed to make a half-court buzzer-beater at the end of regulation.
The miracle basket completed a 20-point, second-half comeback, but La Salle committed six turnovers in the additional session and ultimately fell in a 68-66 final.
Price scored a game-high 26 points, while Jerrell Wright and Steve Zack chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively. Zach also pulled down 11 rebounds and leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game.
The Explorers' peripheral numbers certainly give the look of a team hovering around the .500 mark. They average 61.8 ppg while giving up 61.7 ppg, and have made and allowed 43 3-pointers over 10 games, and have one less rebound (340-339) than the opposition.
It's been 10 days since Towson took the court, and it was another Philadelphia-area team, Temple, that came away with a 76-64 victory. The Tigers failed to match the second-best start in school history through 10 games as they dropped their second straight on the heels on a seven-game win streak.
Four McGlynn scored 20 points against Temple, which shot 50 percent from the floor and made 20 free throws in the second half to pull away. Alex Gavrilovic contributed 17 points with seven rebounds, and John Davis notched a double- double consisting of 11 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
The double-double was the sixth of the season for Davis, who is averaging 11.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. His efforts have helped Towson outrebound its opponents by 11.1 boards per game.
McGlynn (14.2 ppg) has gone 49-of-51 at the foul line, a big reason why the Tigers are 12th in the country in made three throws (18.7 per game).
Two of the previous three matchups between the Explorers and Tigers have gone to La Salle, which would like nothing more than to be the second straight Philadelphia-area team to knock off Towson. The Tigers though, will have a hungry fan-base rooting them on, and that could be all the difference needed in a close matchup.
