TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech Red Raiders VS. Auburn Tigers

Auburn (3-2) at Texas Tech (4-1)

GAME NOTES: The SEC and the Big 12 clash on Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders play host to the Auburn Tigers.

Auburn has yet to win or lose consecutive games this season, resulting in a 3-2 record. The Tigers most recently came out on the winning side of things against Oregon State, 71-69, as part of the MGM Grand Main Event on Nov. 26.

Texas Tech has enjoyed a 4-1 start to the season, with all four victories coming on its home floor to give it wins in seven of its last nine home games. The Red Raiders most recently came from behind to defeat Air Force on Sunday, 63-62, to extend their winning streak to three games.

Each side has beaten the other once before, although the programs haven't met since Texas Tech downed Auburn 83-71 back in 1963.

In a back-and-forth contest with Oregon State their last time out, the Tigers snapped a tie with under four minutes remaining with a quick 5-0 burst and held on down the stretch for the slim victory. Although both teams shot at least 50 percent from the field, the difference was made at the foul line, where the Tigers outscored the Beavers, 22-11. Pacing 11 players in double figures with 20 points was KT Harrell, who shot 7-of-13 from the field. K.C. Ross-Miller, Tahj Shamsid-Deem and Malcolm Canada all scored 11 points, while Cinmeon Bowers tallied 10 points and eight rebounds.

Auburn has experienced some offensive success this season with 70.6 ppg, but it has been let down by a porous defense that allows 73.0 ppg on a lofty 51.7 percent field goal shooting. Harrell pours in a team-best 17.2 ppg, while Bowers (15.2 ppg) is second in the nation in rebounding with 13.0 per game. Antoine Mason has missed four straight games after scoring 19 points in the opener but has returned to practice and is questionable for Wednesday's game.

The Red Raiders trailed for the majority of their most recent game, including by as many as 19 midway through the second half, but instead of rolling over they mounted a furious comeback. After tying the game with 26 seconds left on a Devaugntah Williams dunk, they won it moments later on a Robert Turner free throw. The Red Raiders improved to shoot 45.2 percent from the field in the second half after a miserable first-half showing (.286), and they earned extra possessions thanks to 17 offensive rebounds. Williams spearheaded the comeback effort with 21 points off the bench. Turner stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Zach Smith tallied eight points and eight boards.

Texas Tech is balanced on both ends of the floor, as it shoots 41.3 percent from the field for 70.6 ppg this season while allowing just 64.4 ppg on 40.5 percent shooting, and it boasts an outstanding +7.2 rebounding margin. Williams (13.4 ppg) and Turner (11.6 ppg) are the only players to score in double figures, but six others average at least 5.2 ppg.

With a poor defense, Auburn will need to outrun its opponents this season if it wants to win, especially on the road. However, don't expect that outcome against a well-rounded Texas Tech squad in Lubbock.
