Texas A&M Aggies VS. Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt (11-9) at Texas A&M (14-5)

GAME NOTES: The Vanderbilt Commodores hope to avoid their seventh loss in a row as they tangle with the Texas A&M Aggies in an SEC tilt at Reed Arena.

The Commodores' promising 11-3 start, which included a 64-52 win over Auburn in their SEC opener, has been erased by their current six-game slide. Vanderbilt suffered a 70-62 setback to Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum on Tuesday after it made good on only 13-of-36 shots from inside the 3-point line and committed 22 personal fouls. Coach Kevin Stallings's team held a 36-35 lead with 17-plus minutes to play, but went on a scoring drought that lasted over five minutes which allowed the Bulldogs to take control. Vanderbilt is just 1-5 in true road tests this season, with the lone victory coming during its non-conference slate over Saint Louis (70-55).

The Aggies collected their fifth win in a row on Tuesday as they downed Auburn, 71-61, to also notch their third consecutive road victory. The winning streak has risen coach Billy Kennedy's squad to a 14-5 overall record, which includes a 5-2 mark in SEC play. Texas A&M is 9-1 on its home floor this season, with the lone blemish being a double-overtime loss to No. 1 Kentucky on Jan. 10. The Aggies have never won five games in a row in league play since joining the SEC in 2012-13.

Texas A&M is 0-3 versus the Commodores in SEC games and 0-4 overall.

Sophomore center Damian Jones led the Commodores against Georgia with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, while Luke Kornet hit on 4-of-15 field goal tries to net 11 points. Rookie forward Jeff Roberson added 11 points and four assists.

Jones is having a stellar sophomore campaign, averaging 15.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing. He is ranked second in the SEC in field-goal percentage (.550) and fourth in blocks (1.8). Vanderbilt's rookie backcourt of Riley LaChance and Wade Baldwin IV ha Riley LaChance leads all SEC freshmen in scoring at 12.5 ppg, while Wade Baldwin IV leads all freshmen in assists with 4.3 per contest. Senior forward James Siakam could be a big factor in this one, as he posted two double-doubles in two Vanderbilt wins against Texas A&M as a junior.

The Aggies were extremely efficient their last time out. They knocked down 50 percent of their shots from the floor, including 6-of-14 tries from behind the 3-point line and committed only eight turnovers. Texas A&M also limited the Tigers to 34.1 percent shooting from the field and a 6-of-21 clip from beyond the arc. Danuel House led the Aggies with 22 points after he drained 6-of-7 tries from 3-pointrange. Jalen Jones chipped in 13 points, while Alex Robinson netted 12 points.

House (14.3) and Jones (14.1) lead the team in scoring. House is averaging 19.2 points during his last six contests entering the Vandy game Junior guard Alex Caruso is possibly the most important piece of the puzzle for Texas A&M. The 6-foot-5 junior guard, who led the SEC in assists a season ago, does a tremendous job of operating the offense. Caruso is providing 9.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists in just under 30 minutes per game.

This may be a trap game for the Aggies, who seem to have all the momentum in the world for their return home. However, Vanderbilt has shown it has the talent to knock off quality opponents this season. The Commodores are capable of pulling off an upset in College Station, but they'll need to avoid hazardous scoring droughts.

Predicted Outcome

Texas A&M 66, Vanderbilt 61
