Recap: Texas A&M vs. Montana
College Station, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jalen Jones netted 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead his second-seeded Texas A&M Aggies past the seventh-seeded Montana Grizzlies, 81-64, in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at Reed Arena.
Alex Robinson contributed 15 points and eight assists, and Jordan Green added another 15 with six rebounds and six assists for Texas A&M (21-11), which moves on to the second round of the NIT to face third-seeded Louisiana Tech. Peyton Allen chipped in with 12 points to help the Aggies.
Jordan Gregory scored 20 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out five assists to lead Montana (20-13). Brandon Gfeller tallied 18 points, and Martin Breunig notched 12 in the defeat.
Texas A&M shot 48.5 percent from the field in the opening frame, but went a cold 3-of-11 from 3-point distance. Still, the Aggies managed to take a 38-33 lead into the intermission after Montana hit on 46.2 percent in the period.
The Aggies exploded in the second half behind 72.7 percent shooting. The Grizzlies dipped to 35.5 percent from the floor, and made 8-of-21 from beyond the arc as they continued to fall behind.
Texas A&M dominated play down low, outscoring the Grizzlies in the paint, 44-16, with a 34-28 rebounding advantage. The Aggies also held a 23-8 edge in bench scoring in the victory.
