Texas A&M Aggies VS. Missouri Tigers

Missouri (7-10) at Texas A&M (11-5)

GAME NOTES: The Texas A&M Aggies shoot for their first three-game win streak in more than six week as they host the Missouri Tigers in an SEC battle at Reed Arena on Wednesday night.

The Aggies, who last put together more than a pair of wins in succession back in late November-early December, are an even 2-2 in SEC play thanks to a 74-70 triumph over Mississippi State just over a week ago at home, as well as a 67-64 road victory versus LSU on Saturday.

One of only two teams in the SEC with a losing record overall at this juncture, the other being Mississippi State (8-9), Missouri is hoping to avoid its first four-game slide of the campaign. Since also taking out LSU earlier this month, the Tigers have bowed in three straight outings, the latest being a 59-51 setback to Tennessee at home last Saturday. As a result, the team is just 1-3 in conference play.

Missouri, which has yet to win a true road games in 2014-15, leads the all- time series by a count of 16-11, taking out the Aggies in three straight and five of the last six. Last season, the Tigers pulled out a narrow one-point win in Columbia and also survived a 91-83 double-overtime affair during the SEC Tournament at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Despite shooting only 29.4 percent from the field in the first half, including 2-of-11 behind the 3-point line, the Tigers trailed by just two points at the break against Tennessee over the weekend, but in the second half the hosts were outscored 13-1 at the free-throw line, en route to the eight-point loss. Overall, Missouri was outscored 18-3 at the charity stripe and turned the ball over 14 times, preventing it from being competitive down the stretch. The lone double-digit scorer for the program was Namon Wright with his 13 points, hitting 3-of-7 shots behind the 3-point line.

Johnathan Williams III, one of two players to have started every game for the Tigers, leads the program in scoring with 12.7 ppg and is also first on the glass with 6.8 rpg, which makes you wonder why he is out on the perimeter shooting only 8-of-28 beyond the arc. Keith Shamburger accounts for 8.8 ppg, thanks in part to his impressive 89.6 percent accuracy at the free-throw line, and is first in the passing department with 55 assists for a program that is putting up only 64.2 ppg at this point in the campaign.

The Aggies found themselves in a 13-point hole just moments into the second half versus LSU on the road, but the visitors then held the Tigers to just 29.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 1-of-13 from the outside, over the final 20 minutes of action in order to pull out the close call. Danuel House and Jalen Jones both tallied 18 points, the latter shaking off only 6- of-18 shooting from the field by coming away with a game-high nine rebounds and three steals.

If not for a commanding 109-point effort in the season opener against Northwestern State, the scoring numbers would be even weaker for an A&M squad that is putting up 68.1 ppg at the moment. Jones and House lead the way with 13.8 and 13.5 ppg, respectively, the former focusing his efforts in the paint in order to come up with a team-best 6.0 rpg and the latter hitting on a team- high 24 triples. Alex Caruso (8.8 ppg) does some damage in the scoring department on his own, but he is just as valued as a point man with 90 assists in his 16 starts.

With little success this season, particularly away from home, the Tigers find themselves in a position to potentially pick up an elusive road victory, but everything will have to fall perfectly into place to make that happen on Wednesday.

Predicted Outcome

Missouri 66, Texas A&M 64
