Recap: Tennessee vs. Santa Clara
Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Armani Moore totaled a career-best 18 points to go with six rebounds as Tennessee used a strong opening to the second half to overcome Santa Clara, 64-57, in the Orlando Classic.
Josh Richardson scored 12 of his 18 points in the game's final 20 minutes for the Volunteers (2-1), with Jabari McGhee adding eight points, nine boards and two steals.
Tennessee next faces No. 11 Kansas on Friday.
Brandon Clark's game-high 21 points wasn't enough for the Broncos (2-3). Jared Brownridge contributed 12 points in a losing cause.
Down 30-27 at the break, Tennessee held their foes without a point in the first 9:35 of the second half and took control of the contest. The Volunteers reeled off the first 14 points, with Richardson tallying the first five in the burst.
Robert Hubbs capped the surge on his layup for a 41-30 lead with 11:54 to play, and Brownridge finally ended the Broncos' cold streak from the field a short time later.
Matt Hubbard's jumper with 8:18 to play pulled Santa Clara within 45-38, before Richardson responded with his personal seven-point clip to help the Vols open up a 14-point lead less than two minutes later.
Kai Healy's triple brought the Broncos within 59-55 inside of a minute left, then Tennessee put the game away from the foul line.
