Recap: Tennessee vs. East Tenn St
Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Armani Moore registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Tennessee Volunteers closed out a four- game homestand with a 71-61 win over the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in non-conference action at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Moore, who shot just 3-of-7 at the free-throw line, also accounted for seven rebounds as the Volunteers (8-4) extended their win streak to four in a row. Josh Richardson accounted for a team-high 19 points and handed out six assists, but he was also guilty of six turnovers. Off the bench, Derek Reese pitched in with 12 points for the hosts.
The Buccaneers (6-4), losers of two straight and three of the last four, were paced by Rashawn Rembert who converted 7-of-11 behind the 3-point line in order to arrive at 21 points. Lester Wilson posted 16 points and Petey McClain, despite being held scoreless in 33 minutes of action, played a part on offense with his 11 assists.
ETSU opened the meeting on a 13-0 run and appeared poised to claim the upset, but the team saw that sizeable advantage turn into a 32-31 deficit at intermission. The Bucs made good on 7-of-17 shots beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes, compared to only 2-of-9 for the hosts.
In the second half Tennessee responded with 59.1 percent accuracy from the floor in order to take the double-digit win.
In a game that featured three ties and nine lead changes, the Vols controlled the glass to the tune of a 38-20 advantage, limiting the visitors to just three offensive rebounds on the afternoon.
