Temple Owls VS. Towson Tigers

Towson (7-2) at Temple (5-3)

GAME NOTES: The Towson Tigers will try to get back into the win column on Wednesday night when they tangle with the Temple Owls in a non-conference clash at the Liacouras Center.

Towson saw its seven-game win streak come to a halt with Sunday's 78-46 rout at Georgetown in the BB&T Classic. Still, at 7-2, the Tigers can match their second-best start in school history through 10 games with a victory over Temple here. However, their only two losses came on the road to Alabama and Georgetown.

Temple is playing at home for the first time since Nov. 30, and is hoping to improve to 5-0 inside the Liacouras Center this season. The Owls are coming off Saturday's 58-57 win over Big 5 rival La Salle at The Palestra. Following this tilt, they'll return to the road to take on two more local schools next week, Villanova and Delaware.

Temple leads the all-time series, 3-1, although the Tigers notched a 75-69 victory last season at their new SECU Arena. This marks the third straight season these teams have met.

Despite their hot start, the Tigers certainly have plenty of room to improve after Sunday's blowout loss at Georgetown. They shot just 5-of-21 (.238) from the floor in the first half, including a 0-of-9 effort from the perimeter, as the Hoyas built a comfortable lead. Towson improved to 56.5 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but the damage had already been done.

Expect the Tigers to feed sophomore forward John Davis (11.3 ppg, 9.2 rpg), the current CAA rebounding leader who is returning to his hometown. Davis has already posted five double-doubles, including three in the past four games. Subsequently, Towson is +11.0 in rebounding margin so far this season. Leading scorer Four McGlynn (13.6 ppg) has gone 45-of-46 at the foul line, a big reason why the Tigers are tied for sixth in the NCAA in free throw attempts (247) and tied for fourth in free throws made (172).

For Temple, junior guard Quenton DeCosey (14.1 ppg) leads the way offensively and is the reigning Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week. His backcourt mate, senior co-captain Will Cummings, is averaging 14.0 ppg and leads the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg), assists (25) and steals (11) while playing 36.9 minutes per contest. He has scored in double figures in seven straight games.

After suffering a hard-fought, 58-56 loss at nearby Saint Joseph's last week, the Owls rebounded with a 58-57 win over neighboring La Salle on Saturday. They shot just 34.7 percent from the floor but made up for it by going 18- of-20 at the charity strip and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. DeCosey led all scorers with 19 points as he drained all three of his attempts from the perimeter.

Towson faces another formidable foe here in the Owls, who are hopeful of making some noise in the American Athletic Conference this season. This may not be a high-scoring affair, but Temple has been tough to beat at home.
