Recap: Temple vs. Memphis
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Shaq Goodwin recorded team-highs with 23 points and 11 rebounds as the No. 24 Memphis Tigers took care of the Temple Owls, 79-69, from Liacouras Center.
Memphis (12-3, 3-1 AAC) didn't have much of a hangover following its 73-67 road win over Louisville on Thursday, hammering Temple on the boards by a 44-27 margin, including a 16-4 advantage on the offensive glass.
Michael Dixon Jr. scored 15 points off the bench, while Joe Jackson added 10 points and six assists in the win.
Dalton Pepper scored a game-high 24 points for the Owls (5-9, 0-4), who dropped their fourth straight game overall.
Quenton DeCosey netted 18 points, while Will Cummings added 11 points in his return to the lineup from a concussion.
"We had to be careful playing him. We tried to spot him in the first half," Owls coach Fran Dunphy said of Cummings.
Temple maintained its one-point halftime advantage midway through the second half, but Dixon hit back-to-back 3s as part of an 11-2 run for Memphis.
Chris Crawford followed Dixon with a triple of his own and Jackson made a dunk to cap the spurt and give the Tigers a 59-51 edge.
Later, DeCosey banked in a 3 with the shot clock winding down to pull Temple within six, 67-61, with 5:00 to play.
The lead remained six for Memphis with under two minutes to go when Crawford missed a layup and David Pellom recovered the offensive rebound and converted his layup attempt.
Jackson knocked down two free throws with 58.3 seconds left to increase the cushion to 77-67 and all but seal it for the visitors.
The Owls took their first lead of the game after Pepper knocked down a 3 and then followed with a pair of free throws for a 21-20 advantage at 7:41 of the first half.
No team led by more than five the rest of the frame and Pepper's 3 to end the stanza handed Temple a 37-36 lead at the break.
