Syracuse, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Gbinije sank a jumper in the paint with one second remaining to lift the Syracuse Orange past the Virginia Tech Hokies, 72-70, in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle at the Carrier Dome.

Gbinije finished with 18 points and seven assists for Syracuse (15-7, 6-3 ACC), while Trevor Cooney also tallied 18 points in the win. Rakeem Christmas notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Tyler Roberson grabbed 11 boards of his own.

Justin Bibbs scored a game-high 19 points for Virginia Tech (9-13, 1-8), adding in six rebounds, four assists and five turnovers. Jalen Hudson contributed 18 points and seven boards before he fouled out, and Adam Smith added 13 points.

Syracuse connected on 43.3 percent of its first-half tries from the floor, and took a 34-30 lead into the midway break. Virginia Tech hit on 35.1 percent from the field in the frame.

The Orange dipped slightly to 41.9 percent shooting in the second half, making only 1-of-12 from 3-point range but adding in 11-of-20 from the free-throw line to stay ahead. The Hokies improved to 51.9 percent shooting in the period, and held a four-point lead over Syracuse with 41 seconds left before the Orange made the comeback, capped by Gbinije's game-winner.

Syracuse owned a 42-32 advantage in points in the paint, and outscored Virginia Tech, 16-7, from the free-throw line in the win. The Hokies held a 46-10 margin over the hosts in bench scoring.
