Recap: Syracuse vs. Long Beach State
Syracuse, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rakeem Christmas and Michael Gbinije each netted 24 points to help lead the Syracuse Orange past the Long Beach State 49ers, 85-67, in a non-conference tilt at the Carrier Dome.
Christmas tallied a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Gbinije added eight assists and six boards to his stat line for Syracuse (8-4), which has won two games in a row. Trevor Cooney chipped in with 16 points in the win.
Tyler Lamb, Mike Caffey and Eric McKnight all scored 14 points to pace Long Beach State (5-9), while Lamb added six rebounds and Caffey dished out six assists. David Samuels contributed 13 points and six boards in the loss, which was the fifth in a row for the 49ers.
Syracuse shot 48.4 percent from the floor in the first half, and made 5-of-9 from 3-point range to take a 44-40 lead into the intermission. Long Beach State was hot as well, making 55.6 percent of its attempts from the floor in the same frame.
The Orange pumped up their shooting to an impressive 71.4 percent in the second half, adding in 9-of-10 from the free-throw line to create some separation. The 49ers dipped down to 37.5 percent shooting in the period.
Syracuse forced 15 LBSU turnovers that resulted directly in 24 points. The Orange also outscored the 49ers, 18-7, from the charity stripe.
