Hattiesburg, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Norville Carey notched a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles as they bested the Florida Atlantic Owls, 62-54, in a Conference USA battle at Reed Green Coliseum.

Chip Armelin tallied a game-high 19 points for the Golden Eagles (7-17, 2-11 C-USA), who put an end to a five-game losing streak. Matt Bingaya added 15 points.

Marquan Botley knocked down 18 points to lead the Owls (8-15, 1-11), who have dropped seven in a row and sit at the bottom of the conference standings. Solomon Poole contributed 10 points, while Justin Raffington grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Owls shot 40.0 percent from the field in the first half, with their opponent slightly more consistent at a 47.8 percent mark. The hosts took a 28-24 lead into halftime as FAU converted only 5-of-10 at the free-throw line.

In the second half the visitors dropped to 36.4 percent from the floor, while the Golden Eagles dipped slightly to 44.4 percent, but made 9-of-11 at the charity stripe. The home team led by as many as 17 midway through the second half.

USM outscored the opposition in the paint, 36-20.
