Recap: South Dakota St vs. North Dakota
Brookings, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Bittle sank a game-winning jumper with five seconds left to lift the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to a 74-72 win over North Dakota in a non-conference thriller at Frost Arena.
Bittle finished with 12 points and four assists as the Jackrabbits (1-2) notched their first victory of the 2014-15 season. Deondre Parks scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor before fouling out and Cody Larson tallied 15 points, six boards and three steals.
Jaron Nash paced North Dakota (1-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Estan Tyler chipped in 17 points in 23 minutes and Chad Calcaterra added 13 points.
North Dakota took a commanding, 44-29 lead into the intermission after it hit on 65.4 percent of its field goal tries in the opening period. The Jackrabbits missed all five of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half.
SDSU stormed back in the second stanza with an exceptional offensive performance. The hosts made good on 52 percent of their field goal tries, including a 5-of-10 clip from 3-point range, and converted 14-of-20 shots at the charity stripe after the break. UND missed nine of its 17 free-throw attempts in the second period.
Bittle was fouled on his late go-ahead jumper and went on to complete the traditional three-point play. UND's Tyler Estan was fouled on the following possession, but the visitors fell by two points after they failed to pull down an offensive board after he missed his second attempt at the charity stripe.
Despite the loss, UND outscored the Jackrabbits, 44-32, in the paint.
